Product-Service Systems Engineering
The effective and efficient design of services will become increasingly important for companies. This is valid not only for the established service sector, but also for industrial applications, where the service part is constantly growing versus the classical material product. The resulting growing connection of companies, as well as the increased complexity of products and processes require an interdisciplinary approach between service management, production, and information technology.
In the key research area “Product Service Systems Engineering,” current and innovative concepts for the model-based development, the provision and continuous improvement of services, as well as their integration into service offers are being designed. In the individual research projects, we work out methods for the development and provision of services, and we also implement information systems supporting the development and/or provision of services.
Additionally, it must be considered that the boundaries between product and service are blurring with time – usually, the products are hybrid. They should be interpreted as customized solutions being the result of the combination and definition of services. In the research area “Product Service Systems Engineering,” we therefore research new methods for the design of hybrid products following the basic idea that the fulfilment of a customer’s requirements is not linked to a product, service, or software component from the start. This assignment shall only be the result of the development process of a hybrid product
