Beschreibung

In this seminar, we will reflect on the relationship between economic development, wellbeing and environmental quality. In the first part of the course, we will explore in detail how these three aspects are interrelated. We focus, for example, on questions like: To what extent does environmental quality contribute to well-being? Or does a higher income increase well-being? In the second part, we will focus on alternative concepts for social progress, that focus not entirely on economic development. In the third and last part, we will shed light on popular alternatives for measuring welfare. We will examine how each of these indicators and indices measure economic development, wellbeing and environmental quality and identify strength and weaknesses of different measurement approaches.

The seminar meetings (most likely in January) are currently planned as offline meetings (physical attendance).
