]]>The research group "LaER" of the Department of Economics and the Institute for Environmental Systems Research (IUSF) at the University of Osnabrück is looking for participants to conduct economic experiments.
Interested students of the Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences and the University of Osnabrück can increase their own budget in these experiments in the name of science. The experiments serve to research decision-making behaviour in economic situations and are conducted on a regular basis. An experiment usually lasts half an hour to two hours and takes place either in the CIP pool in Katharinenstr. 1-3 or at Westerberg, Barbarastr. 22c, 93/E16.
No prior knowledge is required to participate in these experiments. Participants can earn on average more than the hourly wage of students! You can register for the participant pool without any obligation at the following link.
With your registration, you initially only signal your willingness to participate in experiments. In the run-up to experiments, people from this participant pool will then be contacted individually and invited specifically for upcoming experiments. Of course, your data will be treated with absolute confidentiality. Further information and research results can be found on our homepage.

]]>The Summer School will take place this summer between summer semester 2021 and winter semester 2021/22, more detailed scheduling will follow shortly. Four tutors of the department offer tutorials on various contents of the courses of the department UF. Some of the tutorials (if possible) will also take place in presence. We would like to give you the opportunity to take up and deepen the contents of the courses and to clarify questions in the tutorials.
We have many ideas for our Summer School, but at the same time we are still flexible. So in order to make this event as helpful as possible for you, we would like to hear your personal opinion and take up your wishes and ideas when designing the Summer School. For this reason, we have created a small survey and ask you to participate (max. 1-2 minutes).

Abstract: Why do groups of even well-educated individuals sometimes persistently believe in political myths and ideologies? We follow cognition psychology in its finding that individuals sometimes stick with intuitive but false propositions. We maintain, however, that they challenge their intuition when the consequences for their individual welfare are sufficiently severe. We embed the underlying evidence in a model of social interaction that determines the conditions of a \textit {myth equilibrium}, in which almost all individuals deeply believe in a certain myth and stick with its ex-post rationalization, or those of a \textit {truth equilibrium} in which all individuals pursue ex-ante reasoning that aims to get as close to the truth as possible. We show how myths are clustered around certain groups and why groups are more likely to stick with political myths than individuals, thus disproving Condorcet's jury theorem.

Abstract: Managers increasingly face various challenges associated with digitization, notably dealing with many issues simultaneously, the flood of information flowing in through digital channels, rapid change, and finding the right balance between the old and the new. Building on a growing body of research suggesting and systematizing leadership competencies, we conduct an online survey with leaders to explore the relationship between selected skills and the ability to deal with specific challenges. We find that a strong ability to think and act entrepreneurially, (self-)organizational and IT skills, a strong ability to motivate others, and high levels of flexibility, commitment, and creativity are positively associated with the ability to deal with various digitization-related challenges. Surprisingly, being a strong team player does not necessarily seem to be an advantage. In addition, many managers would like to see more composure, which suggests that the ability to decelerate is important in the digital age.
