Environmental Economics (Prof. Dr. Engel)
Welcome to the homepage of the Department of Environmental Economics!
At the Department of Environmental Economics, which is headed by Prof. Dr. Stefanie Engel, 11 international employees analyse how an ecologically effective and at the same time cost-efficient environmental policy can be designed.
The focus of our research is on behavioural economic aspects of environmental policy.
In 2014, Prof. Dr. Stefanie Engel was granted an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, the highest endowed international research award in Germany, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The Alexander von Humboldt Professorship for Environmental Economics at the University of Osnabrück was thus established in October 2014.
Using methods from experimental economics, game theory modeling and social network analysis, the effects of alternative environmental policy concepts are analyzed.
The environmental problems considered include issues from the following areas
Climate protection and adaptation, conservation of biodiversity and water resources management.
Information about Prof. Dr. Engel and her staff can be found under Team. An overview of the courses offered as well as information on the courses can be found under Teaching & Studies. Information about the research areas and experiments of the chair can be found under Research.
