What is the Student Council?

The Student Council represents the interests of students and handles the student self-administration. At the moment, the Student Council is composed of 50 students of all semesters.

Each year in January/February seven student representatives get elected to represent students towards lecturers and the university administration. These student representatives are able to make decisions without the rest of the association being present which can be useful during lecture-free periods.

The Student Council is also responsible for fun: celebrations like Christmas parties, farewell ceremonies for graduates or summer parties are organized by the Student Association.

If there are any problems with studies in general or lecturers in particular, students can always seek help at the Student Council.

Some useful hints:

  • Exams: There are two examination dates available after each semester. The first date is at the end of lecture time. Usually, the second date is prior to the start of the lecture period of the following semester. The aids admitted for each exam will declared timely in the lecture and online (StudIP). Students need to make sure that they bring their campus card to every exam in order to prove their identification.

  • Tutorials: In several modules there is the opportunity to take part in weekly tutorials which are held by students studying in higher semesters. Tutorials serve to repeat and reinforce lecture contents using (practical) examples. As there is only a limited number of students participating in each tutorial, it is advisable to be prepared. Ideally, students try to solve the given exercises before visiting a tutorial. This will not only help the tutor to answer specific questions, but also enhance the learning success.

For several modules (e.g. "Statistics for Economists") there are also tutorials in terms of lectures which serve to reinforce lecture contents on the basis of examples.
