Navigating the Digital Transformation

Top content

The digitization of processes, communication, information flows and data in general is a strong driver of social change in our time and reaches almost all areas of life. In this context, companies and public institutions are therefore faced with the challenging task of exploiting opportunities on the one hand and overcoming barriers to change on the other. In order to successfully implement the digital transformation in a responsible manner, an open-minded and resilient management culture is required that enables the right measures to be taken in the right places.

Our research group addresses digital transformation from a socio-technical perspective - we explore drivers, barriers, success factors and impacts of digital transformation in industrial companies and public institutions. The goal of our research is to develop practicable management solutions and methods to accompany the digital transformation process.

Our areas of competence

Digital Readiness

A large number of different barriers can prevent or slow down digital transformation in companies. Barriers must therefore be identified on a company-specific basis in order to develop targeted solutions to overcome them. With the help of a questionnaire based on scientific findings, we can identify problem areas and make a valuable contribution to mastering your digital transformation.

Digital Maturity

Companies that want to drive forward their digital transformation do not usually start from scratch. Digital maturity levels help to gain an overview of the current state of digitization in the company. As part of our research, we develop a holistic maturity model that enables the digital maturity of a company to be classified and serves as a starting point for digital transformation.

Digital Technologies

Digital technologies have far-reaching effects on the business environment of established companies. Using suitable methods, we identify and evaluate the landscape of digital technologies and derive individual transformation potentials or disruption risks in the corporate context. We identify suitable success factors and make beneficial recommendations for action for the implementation of digital technologies.

Digital Strategies

Digitalization promises companies more efficient processes, improved customer service and new business areas. With a holistic digital strategy, companies succeed in keeping pace with other market players and technological change in the medium and long term. Together with the companies, we develop tailored digital strategies and derive effective action measures for optimal initiation and management of the digital transformation.

Digital Education

As part of our teaching, our students acquire skills that they can bring directly to companies to shape the digital transformation after completing their studies. In doing so, we focus on teaching that is characterized by digital media and e-learning concepts. We analyze existing training opportunities in companies and advise on how these can be digitally transformed.

Cooperations

In addition to research and teaching, we carry out projects in collaboration with organizations and companies. These collaborations and partnerships provide valuable synergies for both the university and the respective organization. On the one hand, organizations can draw on specific professional know-how from current research, and on the other hand, academic staff and students can implement or further develop the concepts and models created from research in practice. This interlocking of research, teaching and practice is the basis for a successful knowledge transfer between university and industry.

For these reasons, we regularly look for partners from various public and industrial sectors who are interested in the topics of digitization, digital transformation or Industry 4.0 or who have already gained initial experience with these topics. Possible forms of cooperation range from the placement of practice-oriented student theses and research work by doctoral students to individually initiated projects in which members of the department are intensively involved with the support of student resources.

If you are interested in a cooperation, please contact us by mail or phone for further information. We are looking forward to an interesting exchange of science and practice!
