I am interested in individual decision-making and the influencing factors behind it. My focus is on the agricultural sector, where behavioural and institutional factors influence the actions of farmers.

I am researching how privately and publicly organised incentive programmes need to be designed so that they can contribute efficiently to more sustainable agriculture.

In my research, I use both quantitative and qualitative methods. With the assistance of focus groups and interviews, I design discrete choice experiments (DCEs) to quantify individuals' preferences for policy measures.

Before my PhD studies, I completed my Bachelor's degree in Economics at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid. I graduated with a Master's degree in Economics & Institutions at the Philipps University of Marburg. I spent part of my doctoral studies at the James Hutton Institute in Dundee (Scotland) in the Social, Economic, and Geographical Sciences (SEGS) Department.

FRAMEwork - Farmer clusters for Realising Agrobiodiversity Management across Ecosystems

Within the Horizon 2020 Project of the European Union FRAMEwork: Farmer clusters for Realising Agrobiodiversity Management across Ecosystems" we (S. Engel, F. Thomas, L. Kuhfuss, T. Rellensmann and M. Fritschle) investigate the effects of incentives to promote biodiversity-sensitive agriculture.
